Over 1,000 cards were trafficked to Dubai for use in cricket betting, cyber fraud & digital arrest scams, authorities say
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has successfully busted a major international racket involving the illegal activation of SIM cards using unsuspecting customers' documents.
The authorities confirmed that over 1,000 cards were trafficked to Dubai for use in cricket betting and sophisticated cyber fraud, including 'digital arrest' scams.
The investigation was launched following a Rs 25-lakh 'digital arrest' fraud targeting a senior citizen in Ahmedabad. The police traced the WhatsApp number used in the scam, which subsequently led them to a widespread network operating across Gujarat.
