IGHT switch-on events are happening across the borough for Christmas.

- BY YASMIN AL-NAJAR

The festivities kicked off in Clayton-le-Moors’ Barnes Square on Tuesday.

The Christmas light switch-on event in Accrington, Broadway is due to be headlined by boyband East 17 on Thursday night (tonight) from 4pm until 8pm.

Crowds are expected to gather at the junction of Southwood Drive and Manchester Road, Baxenden, for some festive celebrations on Friday at 6.30pm.

Next week will see light switch-on events at Dyke Nook Gardens, Milnshaw on Tuesday, December 2, at 5.30pm.

Oswaldtwistle will also be hosting an event in the Christmas spirit on Thursday, December 4 at 6pm in Jubilee Gardens.

Debbie Howard has been creating a magical Winter Wonderland and Santa’s grotto for youngsters to enjoy in Oswaldtwistle for several years.

Last year more than 1,000 children and their families visited Union Road Community Church which was transformed into a festive paradise and visitors met Santa and his elves.

This year she has been unable to secure a suitable venue and will therefore not be able to set up a grotto.
