Russell masterclass has Bath in top gear

FINN Russell scored eight points, pulled the strings for three of Bath’s tries and barely put a foot wrong in a classy display that will send shivers down the spine of their Premiership title rivals.

Scotland’s co-captain was back to his ebullient best at Kingston Park in his first competitive outing since a groin injury picked up during Bath’s Champions Cup last 16 defeat to Exeter five weeks ago.

Despite Russell’s welltimed return ahead of the play-offs and a bonus point win to go equal top of the table overnight before Saturday’s fixtures, Bath’s fans will worry about a stuttering ill-disciplined second half.

Man of the match, Bath blindside Ted Hill said: “It’s always big to come to Newcastle and get a win, it’s a very difficult place to play and we’re happy to get the points.
