New Scotland cap Healy has point to prove

NEW Scotland recruit Ben Healy admits he may have “a bit of a chip on his shoulder” as he aims to prove he was right to switch international allegiance from his native Ireland.

The 24-year-old won an U20s Grand Slam in a green jersey in 2019 and ended four years at Munster on a high by helping the province to a stunning United Rugby Championship title in May.

But with Jack Crowley and Joey Carbery for competition in Limerick, plus Ross Byrne and Jack Carty at national level, Healy – whose mother Maria grew up in Turriff, a small town north of Aberdeen – belatedly acquiesced to Scotland’s advances earlier this year and agreed a move to Edinburgh.

He made his Test debut off the bench against Italy in the Scots’ final Six Nations match and started their first World Cup warm-up match against the Azzurri last month, kicking 10 points in a 2513 win.
