Leicester left waiting for spot in knockouts

Victory by four tries to one maintained Leinster’s unbeaten run in pool games and left the Tigers awaiting today’s Sale-La Rochelle result to confirm a last 16 place.

“It’s out of our control now,” reflected Leicester boss Dan McKellar after a frustrating afternoon for Leicester in front of a full house of over 25,000.

Tigers made a good start only to fade away in mid-match after leading 10-0. Leinster’s all-star cast surged back to score three tries from lock Joe McCarthy, wing Jordan Lamour and hooker Dan Sheehan to be 22-10 up just after half-time.

A fourth try in the last minute, from one of their lead men in No.8. Caelan Doris, was the bonus point in a display that mixed clinical attack and strong defence led by man-of-the-match wing James Lowe.
