NEW DEAL JOHN NETS A DOUBLE

JOHN ASKEY toasted a new three-year deal with an impressive victory over AFC Fylde that lifted Hartlepool United to the top of the National League.

Confirmation of the Pools boss’ contract arrived before his players went out and showed why they are the leaders after five games.

Mani Dieseruvwe’s 25th-minute header settled nerves before Callum Cooke’s curler inside the far corner eight minutes later put Hartlepool on track for a fourth win.

Fylde did make things interesting in first half stoppage-time when striker Gold Omotayo’s effort found a way through to goalkeeper Joel Dixon’s net.

But Hartlepool wrapped up the win eight minutes after the restart when Dieseruvwe struck a fourth of the season – much to the delight of their manager.
