OLDHAM boss Micky Mellon was full of priase for Mickleover’s spirited performance after the National League side scrambled a draw and then won on penalties.

John McGrath’s Southern League Premier Division Central side matched a side three divisions above them in all areas and, while relieved to be through to the next round, Mellon admitted: “I think a lot of credit must go to Mickleover.

“We were disappointed with the way we played to be honest and that is no reflection of Mickleover with the way Mickleover played. We understand that there is a lot of work to be done.”

The scene was set for a tight game early on as the visitors snapped at Latics heels with a couple of early chances through strong pressing, the closest with Dan Bradley testing Mathew Hudson on eight minutes and the goalkeeper palming the ball wide.
