Gutsy Ashmore so chuffed to break top three stranglehold

BOREHAM Wood keeper Nathan Ashmore’s season came to an abrupt end, but he’s flattered to have received personal recognition with a spot in the National League Team of the Season.

The 33-year-old suffered a calf strain in the opening ten minutes of Wood’s play-off Eliminator at Barnet, but, with no keeper on the bench, battled on to play a massive part in his side’s 2-1 win.

He then missed his side’s agonising semi-final defeat against Notts County due to the injury.

He told The NLP: “I knew I wasn’t going to be able to play if we got through, so it was just a case of leaving everything out there.

“I wanted to use my experience and get through the game. I went into survival mode.

“Luckily enough, I saved a couple of shots they hit on target.

“If there had been an outfield player in goal, I don’t think they would have saved them.”
