CALLENDER IS ON WINNING SIDE VERSUS HIS OLD PALS

WHEN Erith Town's record goalscorer Steadman Callender left them for Whitstable Town this summer, it was almost inevitable that the fixture list would pair him against his old club.

Callender scored 100 goals in seven seasons for the Dockers and, while he didn't score against them yesterday, his new side claimed a 2-0 win on the opening day.

After an even start, the Oystermen took the lead when a rash challenge by Erith skipper Tom Ash saw referee Joshua Williams point to the spot.

Any thoughts Callender had of taking the penalty were quickly dispelled as Josh Oliver picked the ball up and sent Mackenzie Foley the wrong way.

Dean Grant missed the chance to make it 2-0 when he fired wide from Eri Akintimehin's cross.
