"Building Brighter Tomorrows through Quality Education"

In an ambitious stride towards educational equity, the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS), operating under the Ministry of Social Welfare headed by visionary Dr. H C Mahadevappa, has transformed the landscape of schooling for the state's socio-economically disadvantaged communities. With 843 residential schools and colleges nurturing over two lakh students, KREIS has redefined access, quality, and inclusion. This advertorial offers a detailed view of its major educational, empowerment, and economic upliftment schemes under five thematic headings.

KREIS has drawn inspiration from successful national models like the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas to establish a network of English-medium, value-based residential institutions that provide holistic education to students from marginalized backgrounds. These institutions place a strong emphasis not only on academic learning but also on cultural awareness, character building, environmental consciousness, and physical education.
As of 2024-25, there are 843 residential schools and colleges functioning under KREIS. Together, they provide quality education and residential facilities to a total of 2,13,650 students across Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Backward Class (BC) categories. These institutions are spread across Karnataka and are designed to ensure equitable regional representation.
The institutional breakdown is as follows:
- Morarji Desai Residential Schools, catering to students from 6th to 10th standard, account for 391 of the total institutions.
- Upgraded Morarji Desai Residential Schools, which extend up to 12th standard, number 30.
