Collective Voice Raised for Rivers at National Level

National River Confluence

The Bhartiya Nadi Parishad was formed to establish coordination between the efforts of society and government and to take forward the work of river revival in a better way by learning from each other's experiences, writes Raman Kant, the 'Riverman of India'

Rivers are the lifeline of the entire world but rivers have a special significance in India, because India’s association with rivers is not only economic but also religious, spiritual, cultural, and social. India is also called the country of rivers due to this sacred bond with rivers.

Currently, rivers are facing challenges like water shortage, encroachment, and pollution. While governments are making efforts at their level to deal with these challenges, a large section of the society is also making its important contribution in making the rivers clean and uninterrupted in various ways. While the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, formed Namami Gange for the revival of the River Ganga and its tributaries, he also prominently mentions the efforts being made for the revival of rivers in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.
