As Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the tricolour at the Red Fort on the morning of 15th August 2025, he delivered the longest Independence Day address in the nation's history—103 minutes of reflection, resolve, and roadmap. The 79th Independence Day became more than a commemoration of the past; it was a call to action for the future. Modi's speech underscored how far India has come in its seven-decade-long journey and set ambitious markers for where it must aim: a Viksit Bharat by 2047, when the nation celebrates 100 years of independence.

India’s Journey Since 1947

Prime Minister Modi opened his address by acknowledging the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and the resilience of generations that followed. From being a nation grappling with poverty and food shortages in 1947, India has transformed into:

» The world's fifth-largest economy with ambitions to break into the top three.

» A leader in food security, having moved from shortages to record agricultural exports of 4 lakh crore.

» A country that has repealed 1,500 outdated laws and removed 40,000 compliances to improve governance efficiency.

"Dependence raises questions on independence," Modi reminded citizens, linking the freedom struggle's spirit to today's quest for Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance).
