STRONG AND FREE

Just in time for Canada Day, Maclean's released a special 120th anniversary edition devoted to the country's newfound nationalism in the face of Trump's threats. For some readers, the feeling was contagious.

This is a first for me. I don't think I have ever written to a magazine about its content. I was a Maclean's reader here and there for about 40 years. Then, after our recent election, you sent me an offer to renew my subscription and I took it. I was amazed at the changes. It has been many years since I have read any magazine cover to cover. I did so with the first issue I received. Amazing articles by people in the know about what Canada needs to do to survive in this new climate.

I sent copies of the issue to all my children and a few friends. The question is, how do we get our leaders to read your magazine and take the needed action to make Canada strong and independent?

We have wintered in Florida for 50 years but we have no desire to be Americans, although we love the people, the churches and the culture. Trump says we should become the next northern state. No, thanks—and your articles show us why not. We are Canadians, we are peacekeepers, we are strong, proud and free. We trust in God. We welcome the Queen and now King. We sometimes can vote a party out with a vote of non-confidence. We have amazing mountains, lakes and caring people. Yes, we have short memories but we do get out and exercise our vote when needed.
