Of the many things that make India great, its traditional dance forms perhaps bring the most joy.
Garba, the ancient folk dance typical of Gujarat, has just been inscribed by UNESCO on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Apart from its rhythmic style, catchy beats, and colourful costumes that brighten up the nine days of Navratri along with Dandiya (danced by all genders), Garba is special, as it is a devotional womenonly dance that celebrates feminine energy. Its steps symbolise the womb (garba, in Sanskrit) and the power of Shakti.
