CELEBRATING INDO-EUROPEAN PARTNERSHIP IN INTERNATIONALISATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION ON EUROPE DAY
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Diplomatist
|May 2024
India's relationship with Europe dates back to the 1960s when it became one of the first countries to establish formal relations with the European Economic Community (EEC) (European University Institute, 2012).
Since gaining independence, India has maintained strong ties with Europe, focusing on trade, investment, and national development. This longstanding partnership has endured for over six decades, strengthening the two nations and allowing them to pursue their goals of becoming dynamic global powers. Recently, India and Europe have deepened their relationship through collaboration on learning mobility, research, and innovation.
The benefits of learning mobility have been shown to allow young students and learners to become sophisticated global citizens by enhancing their personal development and learning skills. Additionally, the mobility of researchers promotes the circulation of ideas and knowledge between India and Europe, leading to increased progress in research and education in both regions. In line with the objective of cross-cultural interaction and understanding, India and Europe have addressed the topic of cooperation on higher education and internationalisation in various India-EU summits since 2000. This partnership has paved the way for a roadmap to strengthen relations and gain access to the best of both nations regarding the internationalisation of higher education, research, and innovation, ultimately providing the best resources for worthy young learners and researchers.

Message
Across societies and cultures, the stories of women have always been powerful sources of resilience, creativity and transformation. Yet for much of history, many of these stories remained largely within families and communities rather than in public spaces where they could inspire wider change.
