Freddie Mercury's unseen personal collection set to be exhibited and auctioned, darlings!
-
More than 1,500 items sourced from Freddie Mercury's home between 1980 and 1991, the Garden Lodge House in Kensington, west London, are auctioned off in September, with some of the proceeds going to charity. Six sales in the capital are held and preceded by a travelling exhibition of highlights from the collection, followed by a full A World Of His Own exhibition at the 16,000 ft² Sotheby's HQ in New Bond Street, London. Before its unveiling, a selection of clothing, handwritten lyrics, artworks and furnishings goes overseas to be displayed at Sotheby's, York Avenue, New York, 1-8 June; Camden Drive, Los Angeles, 14-18 June; and Pacific Place, Hong Kong, 26-30 June. The inventory is on show in London from 4 August to 5 September, which was Freddie's birthday.

THIS WAS THE MODERN WORLD
In the late 70s, as punk’s blast of insurrectionary fire began to flame out, many of those inspired to get up onstage began to look further back for inspiration – to the mods of the previous decade, all sharp sense of style and gritty R’n’B pop.
