The Cream Of Scotland

LIKE St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company, many Scottish producers are celebrated worldwide for their fare. In fact, Scottish cheese production as a whole is its own success story. Despite honing a unique cheesemaking history with age-old Scottish varieties like Caboc and Crowdie, by the 1970s the craft of farmhouse cheesemaking was nearly lost in Scotland. In the 1980s, farmers returned to it, and today dozens produce celebrated cheeses across Scotland. Here are some of the country's best to try on your next cheeseboard!

imageOrkney Cheddar and Grimbister

Orkney Cheddar is made from 100% locally sourced milk and is a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) cheese, recognising its attribution to the area. It is known for its creamy but sharp notes, particularly for the matured types. When on Orkney, don't miss trying Grimbister, another local cheese and delicacy, produced by a different small family business. It is crumbly, creamy and available in restaurants and shops across the area.
