When Richard Mille declared 2014 the “Year of the Woman,” it was widely seen as a campaign slogan, but in reality, was the start of a recalibration. The maison sought to create watches for women who see time as something to command, not simply adorn. This influence might have come from Mille’s own daughter Amanda, and co-founder Dominique Guenat, whose daughter Cécile is presently the watchmaker's creative and development director.

The RM 037 Red Gold Snow Set Onyx Dial is, first and foremost, a statement of autonomy. Its tonneau-shaped case, an icon of the Richard Mille silhouette, is rendered in 18-carat red gold, its surface transformed by a snow-setting of brilliant-cut diamonds. Unlike the regimented order of pavé, snow-setting scatters stones of varying sizes across the metal, allowing light to fall unpredictably. The result is something alive, almost kinetic, as if the watch itself breathes with the wearer's movements.
