10 SMART HOME TRENDS TO WATCH

It wasn't so very long ago that the concept of smart homes seemed too futuristic and out of reach, yet within the space of a few years, smart appliances and home tech have evolved and become part of our everyday lives. Rapid development means that smart technology is now more accessible and affordable for all, and most households already have something that is voice- or app-controlled, whether you understand how it actually works or not. And, just as you think you've got your head wrapped around it, the latest innovations bring out something even more advanced! So what is the latest in the world of home tech, and how can you bring it into your own home? We've been chatting to the experts to find out what's going to be trending this year...

1 Innovative ecosystems

With more and more apps to control, it makes sense that the need for a smart home ecosystem is on the rise. If you're not familiar with the term, it's basically a platform that integrates all of your home tech items in one place, getting rid of the need for a variety of apps. There are a few ecosystems out there the big players are Amazon's Alexa, Google Assistant from Google Home and Apple Home from Apple. However, Matter seems to be the most innovative ecosystem that's emerging at the moment and can be used with all products, from lighting and blinds, to security systems and motion sensors. Many items that you already have can be retro-fitted, or can have system updates to be compatible, so you won't need to replace devices. Before buying any new products check for the Matter logo.
