James Cordingley, head gardener at National Trust Dunster Castle in Somerset, tells us about its diverse planting and historical features

“Dunster Castle is situated in Exmoor National Park and was originally built over 1,000 years ago. There are 42 acres of gardens and parkland on steep slopes. We have a rare working watermill producing flour, 17th-century stables and a lemon house. Lemons have been grown on the site since the 1750s, including our own variety. There are far-reaching views - on a clear day you can see Barry in Wales and the islands in the Bristol Channel.
