CARROT GOLD

In the world of vegetables, root crops often occupy the role of humble sidekicks, rarely basking in the spotlight. Among these unsung heroes, carrots stand out as an enduring favourite, appreciated for their sweet, earthy flavour and vibrant colours. These resilient vegetables have graced vegetable patches and allotments across the land, each gardener nurturing their chosen favourites, be they small and slender, delightfully long, or totally round.

But as with any garden, change is a constant, and the world of carrots is no exception. While the old favourites hold a cherished place in our hearts and kitchens, new and lesser-known varieties continue to emerge, each with their own merit and full of potential. There's even a groundbreaking variety that defies convention, allowing you to sow in December for a fresh spring harvest.

So, let's take a look at the delightful world of carrots, explore how to grow them both in the ground and in containers, ensuring you get the most from your crop. Whether you're sticking to your trusted favourites or eager to discover the latest varieties, the way in which you sow and grow any carrot is always the same.

SITE, SOIL AND SOWING

Whether your garden boasts expansive beds or limited space, you can grow carrots just about anywhere. In the ground or in a raised bed, choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil, free of rocks and debris. You may need to add a little sand if the soil has a lot of clay in it this will allow the roots to stay straight while growing. Remember that consistent moisture is key to success with carrots, so keep the soil evenly moist as they germinate and grow.
