Jon Wyand meets Carlo Ferrini at a wine tasting for invited journalists at a restaurant in Victoria, London
-
I must be showing my age; I have never before been asked by a winemaker how old I was. I am obviously of an age to consume alcohol legally. So when Carlo Ferrini from Tuscany posed the question I took it as a recognition of a shared situation. We were at a smart restaurant in Victoria, London. Where Carlo and his daughter Bianca were giving a dozen or more invited wine journalists a tasting of seven vintages of his Brunello di Montalcino.
As usual I was not there to taste but to photograph the proceedings and knew most of the guests. But first the bottles must be photographed as well the place settings amid the preparations as several people moved rapidly around the table checking and double-checking.
