Natural Diamond Council Shines Light on Diamond Market Truths with Two New Reports Reports highlight the unmatched rarity of natural diamonds and debunk myths & greenwashing in the lab-grown diamond industry.
-
The Natural Diamond Council (NDC), a global not-for-profit committed to protecting the integrity and desirability of natural diamonds, has released two insightful reports — Laboratory-Grown Diamond Facts and Fancy Colour Diamonds. These publications aim to empower retailers and educate consumers with fact-based perspectives, countering rising misinformation and greenwashing in the lab-grown diamond sector.
With consumer curiosity at an all-time high, the NDC’s reports address both the sustainability debate and the investment value that set natural diamonds apart.
The Laboratory-Grown Diamond Facts Report - Cutting Through the Greenwash
Amid growing confusion, the NDC’s findings reveal:
Origin & Process
Lab-grown diamonds are factory-made over weeks using HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) or CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) methods — unlike natural diamonds, which form underground over billions of years.
Terminology Clarity
Under ISO 18323, only “laboratory-grown,” “laboratory-created,” or “synthetic” are accurate descriptors. Terms like real, natural, and precious are reserved for Earth-mined diamonds.
