THE CUT UP

DURAN LANTINK DOES NOT LIKE SUMMER. The clothes—mini-dresses, for example—aren’t as interesting to him, plus it’s just so hot. Alas, it’s the last day of June and the first day of a heat wave in Paris, and the Dutch fashion designer—who was born in The Hague and studied at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam—has just been led by his publicist into a showroom space, much like a walk-in closet without AC. “He’s closing the door—is he crazy?” Lantink says, pulling on the handle and laughing. “He locked it! He’s such a brutal person!”

Inside, a wall is hung with fall 2025 pieces from Lantink’s eponymous label, which he founded in 2019. He quickly went viral for transgressive, inventive designs like the pink silk-and-tulle “vagina” pants he created for Janelle Monáe. For fall, he turned out coats, dresses, and sets in tartan as well as snake, zebra, and leopard prints—a clash of tony and tacky that he landed on while shopping for fabrics left over from bigger houses. He spotted plaid near python, and for the first time, he says, that’s where he started a collection: at the level of the textiles.
