Slick, suspenseful and laced with dark humour, Netflix’s gritty DEPT. Q is a masterclass in how to seta show apart in the sea of crimenoirs. Based onthe popular book franchise by Danish novelist Jussi Adler-Olsen, the nine-parter sees Matthew Goode perfectly cast as brash yet strangely likeable DCI Carl Morck, whois tasked with cracking cold cases in Edinburgh. Leah Byrne and Alexej Manvelov are superb as Carl’s colleagues Rose Dickson and Akram Salim, with Kate Dickie on fire as their razor-sharp boss DCS Moira Jacobson.

2 DIVINE DRAMAS

Rose Ayling-Ellis gives an outstanding lead performance in ITV1's CODE OF SILENCE, a dangerous six-part game of pursuit penned by Catherine Moulton, drawing on her own experiences of lip-reading and hearing loss. Available on ITVX, the powerful story sees Rose play deaf canteen worker Alison Brooks, who is asked by DS Ashleigh Francis (Charlotte Ritchie) and DI James Marsh (Andrew Buchan) to use her lip-reading skills to help them investigate a criminal gang. It's all going well until Alison becomes increasingly drawn to gang member Liam Barlow (Kieron Moore)...
