Michael McIntyre is still pinching himself over the phenomenal success of his BBC1 epic The Wheel, which spins back onto our screens for a new series this Saturday.

‘It was never my intention to create a game show or host a game show, but it’s been the most wonderful surprise,’ the popular comedian exclusively tells TV Times ahead of the sixth run of the super-shiny show which he devised, during lockdown, while sitting in the bath. ‘It’s a joy to make and watch, and it’s getting better and better every year. It’s become such a warm and comforting show. Long may it continue!’

The latest 10-part outing will see a fresh collection of competitors in the centre of the 42ft human roulette wheel, where they’ll call on the help of celebrity experts to answer questions on a range of subjects in a quest to win a big cash prize.

Famous faces in the opening episode include The One Show presenter Roman Kemp, comedian Katherine Ryan, England football legend Jill Scott, former England rugby player and The Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler, and actors Layton Williams and Susan Wokoma, while Inside No 9 creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith pool their knowledge in the special Double Chair, which made its debut last series,
