PAUL HOLLYWOOD and new judge LADY CAROLINE WALDEGRAVE spill the baking beans on the celebs whisking it for charity
-
As a fresh batch of famous faces don aprons to raise dough for charity Stand Up to Cancer in the latest helping of C4’s The Great Celebrity Bake Off, there will be one ingredient missing from the usual mix: Dame Prue Leith.
While the restaurateur and cookery writer will still be on judging duties for mainstay The Great British Bake Off, the star has decided to step back from special editions of the show to be able to pursue other passions.
Instead, her long-time friend Lady Caroline Waldegrave – the former managing director and co-owner of Leiths School of Food and Wine – will be joining Paul Hollywood to rate the celebs’ bakes across the new five-part run, which will be hosted again by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.
Here, Paul, 59, and Caroline, 72, give us a flavour of what to expect…
Welcome to The Great Celebrity Bake Off, Caroline! How did you feel about joining the team for the starspangled specials?
CAROLINE I was completely terrified! But when I turned up, I went to the shepherd’s hut that I was allotted and outside were banners saying ‘Welcome!’ and flowers. Everyone from the runners to Paul were just so kind and friendly that I did relax.
And Alison and Noel were so nice to me – particularly Alison; you have to talk to her because she just draws you out in a way other people don’t. She’s extraordinary and her warmth puts you at ease.
