THESE STARS AND THEIR DAUGHTERS SWAPPED CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES FOR A FUN DAY OF DRESS-UP

Gabrielle Union, 52 + Kaavia James Union Wade, 6

“Fancy and perfect.” That’s how Union’s daughter describes her mom’s style. “What makes it fancy?” asks Union. “Because you have a lot of jewels!” says Kaavia. Union's most prized piece of bling is a Tiffany & Co. starfish hair clip (inset) that she wore to the 2024 Met Gala with her husband, retired NBA star Dwyane Wade. She paired it with a mermaid-style dress that was inspired by her “water baby,” who started swimming at 5 months old. Union lent the aquatic clip to Kaavia on-set, while she modeled one of her daughter’s play tiaras. (Dad joined too, snapping videos on his phone from behind the camera.) Kaavia has been accompanying her parents on red carpets since before she could walk.

imageAt her first, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports event in 2019, her “diaper did not hold,” recalls Union. “You peed on us!” The moment served as inspiration for Union and Wade to create their company Proudly, which makes products for melanated babies. Now Kaavia loves trying on her mom’s high heels (so she can be “tall like Angel Reese,” says Union)—and gravitates toward anything pink. “The advice that we give heris, ‘It’s whatever you want to do.’ Whether it’s makeup or hair or how she dresses, it’s completely up to her. It’s her body,” says Union. “You don’t have to follow anybody,” she assures Kaavia. “It’s no one else’s choice but yours how you express yourself.”
