MAKAR SANKRANTI

Every year on 14th January, India celebrates the festival of Makarsankranti. This auspicious day marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

Astrologically, Sun moves into the House of Capricorn, hence gradually the days become longer than the nights. This movement of the Sun is called the northward movement or 'Uttrayan'.

Since it's a legendary Hindu festival it too has legendary stories attached to it. On this day, the Sun God visited His Son, Shani at his home. So it's a union of father and the son. It's an altogether different story that how Shani, the son of the first wife of Sun, abhors his father. However, on this day they unite with each other and sweep away their differences.
