THE SELF-TITLED 'CRAP HOUSEWIFE' HAS FORGED A CAREER ON HER TERMS

Before WHO even arrives at the studio where our photographer is shooting mum, podcaster, author, TV host and self-confessed “crap housewife” Jessica Rowe, we can hear her! Over pumping tunes including Tina Turner’s ‘Nutbush City Limits’ and ‘As It Was’ by Harry Styles, Rowe is laughing uproariously as she throws shapes to best showcase the eclectic clothes she’s chosen for our pictures. “I think this is the most fun I’ve had on a shoot,” she says. “I haven’t stopped smiling all morning.”

Another reason for Rowe’s joy is that she’s just released her book Mum Jokes. “I love to laugh, I love to be silly and this project, as well as this shoot, really shares who I am. I know I’m not cool – and I’m cool with that.”

Rowe, 52, also credits her hard-won joy to the staunch love and support of her husband of 19 years, Nine News Sydney’s chief newsreader Peter Overton, 57, and their daughters Allegra, 16, and Giselle, 14. “They think I’m a dag but I know they’ve got my back,” she explains.

You always look like you’re having the best time on social media – especially with Peter. What’s your secret? 

There’s no secret. I think why Petey and I work is because he grounds me and I lighten him. But more importantly, our moral compass is the same, so we share what matters to us. Of course, it’s important for everyone to know that it takes work and I know I drive him – and the girls – bananas on a regular basis. There are times when he drives me up the wall too! But we put in the work and we let each other be who we are.
