With the hustle and bustle of the holidays behind us, the Home Edit’s dynamic duo help us stick to our New Year’s resolution to get organized

The Law of Order!

The Home Edit cofounders, Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, are taking on hosting duties in a new iteration of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. “What’s truly exciting… is how deeply we get to dive into each family’s belongings,” Shearer tells Us. “We literally take every single item out of the house, giving families the rare opportunity to evaluate their things with fresh eyes.” But even if you’re not planning on a major renovation, you can still get organized. Here, they tell Us how.

A lot of people make “get organized” a New Year’s resolution. How does one achieve that?

JT The biggest mistake we see first-time organizers make is thinking they need to tackle their entire house at once. It’s just not realistic and will leave you feeling overwhelmed. Instead, start with a drawer! The knowledge and confidence you gain from a smaller project will motivate you to tackle the larger portions.
