We chat to Jamie Theakston at The TRIC Awards about his win and how he's been since his recovery from cancer

'The whole experience has made me worry less'

After what have been a harrowing 12 months for Jamie Theakston and his family, the Heart DJ — who hosts the station's breakfast show alongside Amanda Holden - is feeling fighting fit. And, as he tells new, his experience with cancer has made him worry less in general.

Jamie's life was turned upside-down last September when he was diagnosed with stage one laryngeal cancer, which affects the larynx (voice box). “I have cancer — but cancer doesn’t have me,” he said in a statement at the time.

imageThankfully, he was given the all clear in January after undergoing treatment and admits the ordeal has him sweating the small stuff less these days.

“The whole experience has made me worry less in general — that's what it has taught me,” admits Jamie, 54, when we catch up with him at The TRIC Awards 2025, which took place last month at London’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel.

Jamie has been married to Sophie Siegle since 2007, and the couple are parents to sons to Sidney, 17, and Kit, 15, so it's no surprise that the star's family are hugely relieved too. “I'm feeling great and my family are all really great too, so it's nice,” he adds.

The broadcaster first found fame presenting BBC One's Saturday morning children’s programme Live & Kicking alongside Zoe Ball from 1996 to 1999, as well as regularly hosting Top Of The Pops
