Emotional tributes to Liam Payne poured in after the former One Direction star fell to his death from a balcony in Argentina last week.

The 31-year-old’s devastated family released a statement that read: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.

“We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy at this awful time.”

One Direction issued a joint statement in which they said they were “completely devastated”, with Liam’s bandmates also posting heartfelt messages on social media.

“I will miss him always, my lovely friend,” Harry Styles wrote. “Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving.

“The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life.”

Zayn Malik said: “I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain what I’d give to give you a hug one last time and say goodbye properly and tell you that I loved you dearly.
