The Princess of Wales talks of her happy marriage as the royal family welcome celebrity guests to a special reception for Cancer Research UK

The Princess of Wales made a series of rare comments about her relationship with her husband, the Prince, as she made a surprise appearance at a special reception for Cancer Research UK at St James's Palace last week.

Kate, whose involvement was only announced on the day of the event, joined the King and Queen to mark the 125th anniversary of the charity, and, although Prince William was not present, she remarked upon the couple's happy marriage.

She spoke to Ronan Keating, who told her: "Please say hi to William." The pop star's wife, Storm, said: "He's such a gent," before Ronan added: "Yeah, we love him." In response, Kate laughed: "So do I."

It was an event close to the hearts of the King and the Princess, who have both been open about their own recent experiences of the illness.
