South Africa’s red meat industry is poised to capitalise on export opportunities in Algeria, a country struggling to meet its growing demand for high-quality beef and lamb.

According to Bizcommunity, during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent state visit to Algeria, Gert Blignaut, CEO of Beefmaster Group, said the potential is huge for South African exporters to establish a robust presence in this North African market.

Blignaut said Algeria’s reliance on imports to satisfy its domestic red meat needs presented a strategic opening for South Africa.

He added that Algeria’s demand for beef and lamb aligned well with South Africa’s ability to supply world-class, competitively priced meat products.
