Essential oils venture empowers Keiskammahoek farmers

Qobo Qobo Essential Oils Incubator, a rural enterprise in Keiskammahoek, Eastern Cape, is creating jobs through the cultivation and export of essential oils.
Speaking to Farmer's Weekly, Qobo Qobo CEO Tafara Shuro said the venture, formally registered in 2014, used locally grown rosemary and chamomile to build a thriving business while empowering the surrounding community with jobs, skills and income.
Shuro added that Qobo Qobo operated on 63ha of land (23ha owned by the company and 40ha by communal farmers).
All nursery, planting, drying and distillation processes took place locally, while marketing was conducted in East London. The company currently employs 20 full-time and 65 part-time staff.
