ARC names best dairy producers of the year

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) recently announced the winners of the 2024 National Master Dairyman Awards at an event hosted by AgriExpo in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.
The winners were celebrated for their participation in the ARC’s National Milk Recording and Improvement Scheme and for breeding genetically superior animals, using performance recording and testing as key tools to improve production sustainability and profitability.
Etienne Zeeman from the farm Leeurivier near Swellendam won the Herd with the Best Somatic Cell Count award, with an average somatic
Hendrik de Waal, a researcher at the scheme, said this was the sixth time Zeeman had won: “Zeeman is far ahead of the rest of the farmers because of his strict selection criteria for this trait.”
