GLOBAL TECH GIANT FUELLING INDIA'S ENTREPRENEURIAL TRANSFORMATION
Entrepreneur magazine
|November 2025
India's entrepreneurial landscape is witnessing an unprecedented transformation, helping the country shift from being an emergent market to a global hub for innovation. A founder successfully closing a multi-million dollar funding round to stand the test of the time at the public market—these landmarks surprisingly seem pretty basic. There are many to credit for this triumph, but not much is talked about the contributions of the global companies which embraced India in letter and spirit.
As of now, India boasts of having one of the largest startup ecosystems in the world. It has more than 1.57 lakh DPIIT-recognised startups and more than 100 unicorns. These startups hail from all parts of the country, and many new startup hubs are in the making. A lot of young and existing companies have benefited from the resources provided by global tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta, among others. These resources go beyond mere access to infrastructure; they also provide platforms that help with crucial entrepreneurial elements such as exposure, networking, mentoring, and funding. This is the story of how Big Tech has played a pivotal role in building India's entrepreneurial spirit.
MICROSOFT: INNOVATION AND DEEP TECH GROWTH
Microsoft, a household name in India for its variety of products and services, has also launched several programs to support the local entrepreneurs, including those hailing from smaller towns and cities.
Earlier this year, Microsoft and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi officially launched the Unnati AI Accelerator, an initiative aimed at driving AI-led social impact across Tier-II and Tier-III towns in India. Focused on sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and sustainability, the initiative is designed to empower innovators with funding, mentorship, infrastructure, and market access to foster sustainable AI deployment and inclusive economic growth.
