Capital's Realignment: FROM HYPE TO HARD YIELDS
Entrepreneur magazine
|July 2025
As Q2 2025 draws to a close, the capital stack in India is undergoing a decisive transformation, marking a shift from heady funding surges along with speculative tech bets to a more grounded, yield-driven approach.

Investors, domestic and global alike, are now recalibrating their strategies, moving beyond the frothy valuations of yesteryears to focus on startups with better paths toward monetization, unit economics that are sustainable, and most importantly, real-world resilience. “This is no longer about who can raise the most capital, but who can create the most defensible value,” said Karthik Reddy in Blume's Limited Partner Quarterly Letter publication.
The statement reflects this precise sentiment, citing a return to elemental principles of investing - focus on capital efficiency, resilience, and monetizable business models, particularly in early-stage tech.
Even amid a broader downturn, private equity (PE/VC) investments in India dropped 68 per cent year-on-year in May 2025, according to an EY-IVCA report. Select sectors are emerging as the new darlings of venture finance. Climate tech, defence, biotech, space, and frontier deeptech are attracting strong and steady attention, as investors turn toward areas with massive unmet demand and long-term global relevance.
Shashvat Rai, Partner at Aavishkar Foundation, says that these spaces are where India can build globally competitive solutions from the ground up, with the message being very clear: hype is out, hard returns are in.
“Sectors like climate tech, defence tech, space tech, biotech and other deeptech sectors where unfulfilled demand is massive due to existing nascent ecosystems and where there is an ability to create global solutions from India will continue to attract strong interest from VCs in India, despite there being a recalibration around other sectors where there has been lots of funding over the past decade,” said Rai.
