The interim government, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, has recently launched a renewed push to generate more clean and green energy. In the last part of June, he presided over a meeting of the National Rooftop Solar Program, where he directed the authorities to go big for accelerating the initiative. He called for installing solar panels on the rooftops of government buildings, schools, educational institutions, and hospitals. The urgent move is also aimed at reducing reliance on costly fuel imports and saving much-needed foreign exchange.

LET'S FOCUS ON RENEWABLE ENERGY

Bangladesh has long been struggling with the high demand for electricity to run industries and meet household needs, which are ever-growing. Even though the previous government, in its push for boosting power production, could increase the generation capacity to over 27,000MW, the actual generation was much below. Because of a fault in the policy, the capacity could not be turned into actual generation. This has led the industrial sector to suffer the most.
