Engines Driving India's Global Expansion
Cruising Heights
|January 2026
India's aviation sector is expanding rapidly across both narrow-body and long-haul operations, shaping a new era of fleet and network growth. With CFM LEAP engines powering domestic expansion and GEnx engines enabling efficient international operations, engine performance is becoming a strategic differentiator. VIKRAM RAI, Chief Executive Officer, South Asia, GE Aerospace, outlines this ambition.

India is among the fastest-growing civil aviation markets. How is GE Aerospace tailoring its commercial engine strategy to match India's unique growth trajectory?
India's civil aviation growth is marked by scale, strong momentum, and an evolving ambition to expand into long-haul travel. Our commercial engine strategy is shaped around these factors.
We are already supporting India's narrow-body expansion through CFM LEAP engines, while enabling long-haul growth with proven wide-body platforms such as the GEnx. Known for its fuel efficiency, durability, and strong time-on-wing performance, the GEnx is well-suited for Indian carriers who currently or plan to operate on high-utilisation international routes. As airline networks extend beyond major hubs, reliability and operating economics become even more important. Our continued investment in advanced materials, engine architecture, and digital tools helps airlines protect schedule integrity while operating some of the world's newest, most efficient fleets.
How is GE Aerospace partnering with Indian airlines to support long-term engine lifecycle needs, from selection to in-country maintenance?
GE Aerospace works closely with Indian airlines across the full engine lifecycle, from early fleet planning decisions through long-term maintenance and support.

Building the Foundations of India's Aviation Future
India's aviation sector is undergoing a deeper transformation than traffic numbers or fleet orders can reveal. The country is shifting from being a high-growth market to building end-to-end aviation capability across manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and talent. This ecosystem-level change signals a future where India not only expands its skies but sustains and powers them through its own strengths. SALIL GUPTE, President, Boeing India and South Asia, outlines how Boeing is part of this story.
