Lake in Fayette and Bond Counties Carlyle Clinton is the largest manmade lake in Illinois. In 1957, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed a comprehensive plan for the Kaskaskia River and the Carlyle and Shelbyville Reservoir projects which were subsequently approved by the U.S. Congress as part of the Flood Control Act of July 3, 1958.

It was originally slated to be a flood control reservoir in 1933, however, WW II prevented the plan from moving forward. It was finally completed in April 1967.

The lake itself is 15 miles long and 3 1/2 miles wide and covers 26,000 acres. It is a great place for water recreation with motorboats, sailboats, and fishers. Now we have the opportunity to start giving airboat rides on this lake as well.

We are the only company in the state of Illinois that offers airboat rides. We are providing one-hour-long rides on the north end of the lake where it is very shallow and outboard motors cannot run. We take our customers through the shoots and shallows and out onto the river where no other boats can navigate.
