SKODA HAS UNVEILED a brand new concept car, called Vision O, and - as its name subtly hints - it gives us a glimpse into the Skoda Octavia Estate's electric future.

Having been first introduced back in 1998, the Octavia will be the first of Skoda's legacy models to make the switch to electric power.

Currently, Skoda's only pure electric models are the Elroq and Enyaq SUVS - designed as electric vehicles (EVS) from the outset.

Technical details have yet to be confirmed, but we expect the Vision O to be based on the VW Group's new SSP underpinnings. Those initials stand for Scalable Systems Platform, meaning the technology can be adapted to suit various vehicle sizes - including the eventual Elroq and Enyaq replacements. In fact, the same technology is set to underpin the upcoming Volkswagen ID Golf, another historic model that's set to go fully electric in the coming years.
