IF YOU have a copy of Norm Darwin's definitive History of Holden Since 1917, take a guess at how many Belmonts, Kingswoods and Premiers were built on the HQ platform from 1971-79 then check Page 187.

Not many of us will get close to the astonishing total of 767,012 cars, with more than half of them (452,576) being HQs.

I could then check the lists of cars surveyed late last year when updating our Value Guides and see a very different picture emerging. Advertisements from print and online sites between September and November revealed just 83 HQ-HZ Belmont, Kingswood and Premier sedans and wagons being offered for sale, with more than half of them having V8 engines.

Most, as might be predicted, were HQs, with the sample including seven original Premier V8s. Also on the list were only five HJ-HX Premier V8s, followed by seven HZ Premiers with V8 engines.
