The Mahindra Thar has had a lion’s share in democratising off-roading in the country! It has made the sport accessible unlike other SUVs have, and has pretty much single-handedly introduced enthusiasts to off-roading as a leisure activity. It also commands immense respect, especially in off-roading communities. Launched first in 2010, the Thar boasts an unbeatable reputation when it comes to desirability and the macho feel associated with hardcore SUVs, given its combination of looks and ability.

The second generation version of the Thar has only seen it get more desirable, coming across as a great alternative to crossovers and front wheel drive SUVs with its comfort, besides offering an even better blend between practicality and go-anywhere abilities. No surprises then, Mahindra has moved over 1,00,000 units of the second generation Thar alone, in less than three years, a record in itself! But despite all this, a lot of buyers and enthusiasts still feel they need to be ‘qualified’ to go off-roading in the Thar.
