What makes a car desirable?

Whenever you start to describe a car as desirable, the expectation is that this should be an exotic Italian sportcar or a massive luxury sedan of some type. It seems like we have become conditioned to think that desirable is synonymous with speed, luxury and now tech.

For the average person, once they stop daydreaming, a desirable car should first fit their budget. If the Indian car market is anything to go by, that usually means something under Rs 30 lakh. which immediately ensures much more pragmatic attributes decide what makes a car desirable.

Now these attributes may change for everyone, but I think the most important trait for a car to become desirable is for it to be fit for its purpose in a convincing way. This can look like different things. So a Dzire may not be desirable to someone looking to buy a big SUV, the Thar Roxx may be that car for them.
