|October 2023
India hosted its first ever premier class motorsport event in a decade as MotoGP landed at the Buddh International Circuit for the first ever Grand Prix of India. The event had top-class performance on the track - which received widespread acclaim from teams and riders and gave the Indian motorsport fans the opportunity to experience a world class event. Dipayan Dutta and Anagh Bhaskar get you an indepth report
The temperature at the Buddh International Circuit soared as the Grand Prix machines revved their engines with the best riders in the world waiting for the lights to go green. The Indian heat is a huge factor when it comes to rider endurance - the reason that the Race Control decided to cut short the total number of laps to 21 instead of the originally planned 24. This heat, however, did not seem to take any toll on Marco Bezzecchi as he stamped his name in the history books as the winner of the first-ever MotoGP Grand Prix in India. The 24-year-old Italian who races for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team topped almost everything during the weekend, except for bad luck during the Tissot Sprint race on Saturday. Bezzecchi crossed the finish line 8.649 seconds ahead of Jorge Martin who fended off Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo during an action-packed Grand Prix.
