But it's been on sale for six years and the SUV game has moved on - and now, so has the Urus, in the form of this SE.

The big change is the new plug-in hybrid system, based around a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine. Peak power is a staggering 789bhp, with torque now at 950Nm. These are gains of 132bhp and 100Nm, but they come at some cost.

Thanks to the SE weighing about 300kg more than the old Performante, acceleration is a little slower- although 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds is still enough to remain at the top of the class. Plus the SE can do up to 37 miles on pure electric power.

Its set-up features a limited-slip differential at the rear, four-wheel steering, an active anti-roll system, carbon-ceramic brakes and the latest airsuspension tech. They're controlled through seven drive modes, but the only ones you'll need to worry about on the road are Strada, Sport, Corsa and Ego.

Within each of these are four powertrain modes, made up of EV, Hybrid, Recharge and Performance.
