Out of Office: Ivana Cholakova spins the wheel of chance

- Ivana Cholakova

Postcard from Monaco

IT’S EARLY SPRING IN MONACO. I’M standing at the grand entrance of the Casino de Monte-Carlo - a lavish rococo building which is part of the Opera House. While I'm an inexperienced gambler, I’m curious to visit one of Francis Bacon’s regular haunts from his time living here in the early 1950s. (He first arrived in Monaco in 1946, drawn to the city’s winding mountain streets and Mediterranean opulence.)
