Superstar makes eye-catching grand prix debut

LAURA MANTEL headed the 1.40m September finale for the second year running, this time making a successful grand prix debut with J Superstar.

She jumped the quickest of two double clears from second to go on the gelding, whom she has been riding for six weeks, while Emily Seal produced the only other faultless round, three seconds slower on eight-year-old Karmaletta.

“I thought there would be more double clears and I knew I had Ollie Tuff [fourth with Luidam’s Warrior] to come and he’s usually quick. I was aware that the others know their horses a bit better than I do right now, so I just wanted to put a bit of pressure on,” said Laura, who won this class 12 months ago on Arkuga.
